Distance Learning Specialist
 Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired
(Phoenix)

Position Description: Design, implement and maintain a Distance Learning Program in support of the Comprehensive Disabilities Awareness Program at ACBVI and ATArizona.com.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop the technology infrastructure necessary to establish a multimedia DL program
  • Adapt existing and develop new online course material
  • Conduct web conferencing and webinars including interactive video streaming
  • Present innovative ideas for adapting existing programs to the Internet environment
  • Produce Monthly reports on program status
  • Ensure all content is fully accessible to all disabilities – Section 508, WSC/WAI, W3C

Candidate Qualifications: Bachelors degree plus one year of experience in teaching online courses, curriculum design, and creating Distance Learning content.  Special education experience and knowledge of / certification in Assistive Technology are pluses.

General Knowledge Requirements:

  • Technical / working knowledge of the development, design and delivery of Distance Learning instruction
  • Operation of videoconferencing, audiovisual equipment and audio/video/data transmission
  • Audio/video production
  • Current trends in technology, multimedia and education
  • Teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, including adult learners with disabilities
  • Windows operating systems, office productivity software, and instructional technology
  • Course management applications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to create instructional content and media using software such as Blackboard, Moddle, Camtasia / Captivate, Impatica, CS3 (Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop), Softchalk, Studymate
  • Section 508, WSC/WAI, W3C Accessibility Standards

Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential to be successful in this position; you will be directly interacting with blind, visually impaired and multiply impaired co-workers and clients.  Some travel is necessary and a valid driver’s license is required.
