Vision Awareness Month virtual movie screening and panel discussion

A fundraiser for the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Date: October 8th, 2020
Time: 04:30 pm to 05:30 pm
Price: Donation Accepted
Location: Virtual Event

Join ACBVI and the Art in Medicine program at the University of Arizona School of Medicine for a Vision Awareness Month screening and discussion on the movie "Going Blind" on Thursday, October 8th.

Peabody Award winning producer/director Joseph Lovett has been losing vision to glaucoma.  In an attempt to gain a better understanding of how to deal with further vision loss, he spent five years meeting and talking with people who have already been through the process.  Through their generosity and insight, Joe comes to understand that losing vision is not the end of the world.  The film straightforwardly confronts the fears and prejudices about the blind that are so subtly a part of our everyday lives - noticed only by someone who is losing his or her vision.

The event consists of two segments - a link to stream the movie (subtitled and audio described versions available) and a live virtual panel discussion about blindness and the movie with:

Joe Lovett, producer/director of "Going Blind", plus a panel of local experts including:

Moderator Jaime Cerreta, Anchor/Reporter for Arizona's Family

Mandi Conway, MD/Ophthamology from the University of Arizona School of Medicine

Paul Bendheim, MD/Neurology from the University of Arizona School of Medicine

Adam Zimmerman, Attorney, Employee Relations for CVS Health in Scottsdale and ACBVI Board Member

They will talk about the topics of blindness and vision loss and how the film looks at each aspect of vision loss:  preventing, treating and coping.

To register for the event, clink on the link below.  Once received, we will send the information and streaming links to watch the movie and the Zoom link to join the panel live on Thursday, October 8th at 4:30pm PST (7:30pm EST).

Coming Soon! 2nd Annual ACBVI Wine School Fundraising Event - virtual for 2021

A fundraiser for the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Date: February 20th, 2021
Time: 12:00 am to 12:00 am
Price: Ticketed
Location: Various Valley Locations

Join us for a virtual wine and food fundraising event, scheduled for February of 2021, learning about and experiencing fine wine from around the globe. This annual event will be held virtually in small house parties around Phoenix and Arizona.

We are looking for location hosts (keeping capacity of each location to no more than 8 attendees), providing a streaming education and participation experience on wine and food of our selected region. Although the event will be virtual, the wine and food selections will not be, with each location being able to experience the tasting menu from their hosts location. All ticket proceeds will benefit ACBVI in their mission of providing independence for the blind and visually impaired of Arizona.

If you are interested in learning more about hosting a tasting location for this fundraising event, please contact Jon Williams at
